weekend project…garden art

The weather here is starting to warm up again (Yes, I do realize that it’s not quite the case in other regions, but it will be soon enough) and my thoughts are turning back to the outdoor world.  I’m no green thumb, but I do enjoy a garden that’s easy to maintain and lovely to look at.

Here’s a great project to spruce up your exterior living space, courtesy of Sunset.

Succulent frames

These beautiful succulent gardens are actually able to hang or stand upright and they’re really simple to make using a pre-made frame or you can make your own.  Click here for full DIY instructions.

Add soil to frame

Note: succulents are super easy to get cuttings from.

Simply break off small sections from existing plants, making sure that there is a small stem.

Set them aside for a few days (I put them indoors, no direct sunlight) until the ends get callused.  Then plant those pups and watch ‘em grow!

Sofa Table

We’re going to do something a little different with the metal panels this time. Instead of using them for doors, I am going to increase the size of the dimples and use the panels for table tops.  I had an idea for a two-legged sofa table that will lean against the wall. I have been sketching the basic design over and over for weeks, which tells me the time has come to get this thing built. I go by the notion that if I draw something once and forget about it, that’s probably how it should stay.  Anyway,  I’ve talked to my fabricator and he can bend tubing to follow nearly any design I give him.  “just give me what you want in a full size drawing on cardboard.”  Great!  I have one full version that I like, and hope to be posting pics of the finished table in two weeks or less.

Here is a refresher photo of the panel.  Btw, i found the most amazing stainless steel hinges to replace the stand-ins from Home Depot (as seen below).

…and a few of the sketches.

friends of inspired design daily

First of all, I want to say thank you to everyone who has been following the blog – we’ve grown a tremendous amount over the last several months and I couldn’t be more excited.  I love being a part of this strange and awesome internet community.

With that, I’m really excited to announce that starting this month I am introducing some guest bloggers who will be a regular part of Inspired Design Daily!  Allow me to briefly introduce these creative, talented and just generally lovely ladies who will be sharing their insight and making this blog a better place to visit.
