settling in

Whew!  Yesterday was quite a day.  Any Moms out there will probably have a laugh but I feel like I just gave birth to a little business baby.  I’m exhausted, emotionally excited and scared at the same time.  And I don’t want to leave it alone for a second; just can’t stop staring at it!

But that’s where we differ because new Moms stare in amazement at their perfect creation and I, well, I’m a little bit more critical.  Okay a lot.  I’ve already got a list of things that need to be fixed, tweaked or disappear altogether.  Don’t get me wrong, I’m really happy with where we are and I feel like anything beyond that is just progress.  I just need to figure out what to do next…

I would really like to give a HUGE thanks to everyone who sent emails, blogged, tweeted and facebooked all day long yesterday.  We had an amazing launch that got us on Google’s radar and we did make a sale.  Pretty good for a first day right?  I feel so grateful for the opportunity to do this and the support from everyone we know.  I promise to always keep the passion alive and to continuously be tweaking and scheming for ways to make things better.

BTW, someone asked me what my favorite product was.  I doubt I could ever have a single favorite, but that inspired me to make a list or a newsletter or something to highlight my current favorites each week.  And I think I’ll give a discount on it too.  The details still need to be hammered out of course, but here’s my pick for today at least.

The Souvenir tea towel.  It’s bright and playful, just like my mood today.

It’s $10, and I really want to see a couple in my kitchen (but, alas, David says that I can’t keep anything for myself until we sell one first).  He’s a smart guy.  So anyway, I don’t have promo stuff set up just yet but if you perchance wanted on of  these for yourself, I’ll send you a $10 gift certificate for your next purchase on the site if you order from now until Sunday.  Basically that makes it free.  Then we both win because I’ll get to keep one too :)   Haha.

Today is where it all begins

We are so incredibly excited to be launching Redefine Home after months and months of planning and some really (really) hard work.  This truly is my passion and I feel so lucky for the opportunity to do this with my life.

Please allow me to introduce Redefine Home, an online store full of home furnishings that we think you’ll love.  Our goal from the very beginning was to create a place where people from all over would come for inspiration and to feel like somebody ‘got them’ in terms of design and decor.  We hope we’ve done that, with vintage found objects, fun and trendy decor and unique designs made just for us by local designers.  We also been working away on designs of our own so that will be the next big step.

I invite you to come check us out at www.redefinehomestore.com and see for yourself.  I could really use all the help I find to get this project off the ground so if you like what you see, pass it along!

Thank you to my lovely, loyal readers over the last year and was this blog that inspired it all.  Now it’s time to make the dream come true.

Redefine Home in beta

Holy cow is today an exciting day!  I just sent our website out for beta testing.  We have been working like crazy to fix everything up so we could give it to people to tell us what’s wrong with it!  Okay, well I find that funny anyway.

So with the store in beta I’m forced to sit back and drink lattes (okay, I’m actually still working pretty hard) and I wanted to post my usual Monday section on something nifty we’ve found.  Here goes.

This beauty is made of chinese elm and used to be a daybed, but now it’s a coffee table (I believe it was slightly modified).  This finish on it is amazing and you’ll see in the very last picture that there is a small wax seal splat, a remnant from days past.  I truly love this piece and I’m happy to have it currently in our living room where I can see it.  But soon enough it will be making the trip to someone else’s home, and I’ll have to say goodbye.  No worries, as long as they love it like I do (which they will, of course).

You can find this piece in our found objects section at Redefine Home very very soon!

Happy Monday.

a little hiatus

Our store opens in a couple of weeks and I’m freaking out!  Not the spastic, running around like a headless chicken (and I did watch the BBC special Hugh’s Chicken Run, so I’m fairly sensitive to that comment…) kind.  More like eat, sleep, breathe my store and if I’m not thinking about what to do next I’m wondering what I’ve forgotten.  Fair enough, since there still is sooooo much work to be done and if I don’t do it who will?  But really it’s starting to drive me a bit batty.  In a good way.  I think…

Why am I telling you all this?  Good question.  I realized this past weekend that I pretty much forgot the blog all week.   I’ve been so wrapped up in this that other things just fall by the wayside.  But the blog has been, since I began it over a year ago, a little haven for me.  A good place to go with my creative thoughts and a place I could share things whether people were listening or not.  Now that the blog has gotten bigger, I know that someone is listening (that’s you) and it’s important to me that I don’t disappear for too long.

So I’m going to take a little time off to focus on getting the store up and running – it opens April 28th so there really isn’t much time.  I’ll still post things here and there when some idea pops into my head and I can’t get rid of it until I write it out.

In the meantime, I thought you might like to see a couple of the things we’ll have in the store.  After all, every Monday should start out with something pretty.

Ciao!
