Weekend Fun: Juicy Fruit

A few weeks ago my husband called on his way home from work and told me he got me a present.  I love presents so he basically could have brought me pet rock and I would have loved it.  But what he walked in the door with was much better: it was a 20 lb industrial juicer (I think from the 70′s).  His client had purchased it years ago and gotten bored before she even got started so it sat unloved until she decided to demo her kitchen.

I’ve been pining for a juicer ever since one late night when I got sucked into a Jack Lalanne infomercial.  And now…I’m gonna have so much fun!  This thing has an industrial motor that could power a golf cart and it’s solid metal.  They just don’t make things like they used to.

So after a good scrubbin’ (it did collect dust for a couple decades) I’m all set to juice away.  First things first, I need to find some great recipes.  Here’s what I’ll be drinking this weekend.

Celery with Carrot and Apple – Sounds sweet, plus celery is great for detoxifying and re-hydrating and it lowers blood pressure

Celery Juice Recipes

4 stalks celery

2 large carrots

1 peeled and cored apple

recipe from www.rawfoods-livingfoods.com

Orange, Cucumber and Ginger- for Glowing Skin

1 orange

1 cucumber

1/2 ginger root

Anti-Headache Juice

3 carrots

2 celery stalks

handful of spinach

1/2 ginger root

I can’t wait to get started.  If you have any recipes to share or have experience with juicing let me know.  Happy weekend!

  1. My favorite thing to make in our champion juicer right now is sorbet. So easy! Just freeze some fruit, berries, whatever you want to include and feed it through! It comes out in perfect soft-serve texture. Of course a little sweetener never hurt the flavor, and some lemon usually comes in handy. Here is a great resource for recipes: http://www.championjuicer.com/recipes1.htm#GRAIN%20MILL%20RECIPES

    All the best, Alice
