Survey Says…
| May 16, 2011 | Posted by Linsi Brownson under Have Fun, Inspiration |
I feel pretty lucky to have so many loyal readers, and new readers too of course. Hey, I’m not picky – just happy to know that someone finds this crap interesting : )
But I don’t know you, and that hardly seems fair. A bit one-sided. Not to mention that I could probably write a better blog if I knew what parts of it you actually come to read. I think it’s time for me to put you all on the spot with a mini survey. Don’t worry, this will be fun. And there’s something in it for you too.
Here’s what I’d like to know:
1. How old are you? Ranges only please. 18-24, 25-35, 36-42, 42-50, 50+ (If you’re 90 please tell me, I’d be so excited about that!)
2. Are you male or female?
3. What’s your dream job?
4. What’s your real job
5. Where do you hang out? I hang out at home…
6. How much time do you spend reading blogs each week?
7. Which blog is your favorite?
8. Why on earth are you reading Inspired Design Daily?
9. Tell me something random about you. Me first? Ok, my 15 minutes of fame came when I was 12 and played Little Orphan Annie. I sang my heart out and never had more fun in my life.
I would love to hear from as many readers as possible, so put your responses in the comments section. You can answer whichever questions you want to, and don’t be shy. I really want to know this stuff. AND this is a chance to selfishly promote your blog, store, whatever you’re doing because I’m going to visit every one of them and do a profile on a couple people who inspire me. So yay! Win-win.
An Inspired Giveaway
| May 12, 2011 | Posted by Linsi Brownson under giveaways, Have Fun, Inspiration, lighting |
Don’t you just love giveaways? I do too, that’s why I was really excited to be contacted by Lizzie Lander about doing a giveaway with one of her amazing paper pendant lamps.
Yes I did say paper. This gorgeous piece is carefully constructed like a paper flower with tons of delicate folds for a really pretty, almost fluffy appearance. With all those layers, it casts a soft glow that would be great over a dressing table or an unexpected piece in an entryway.
Check out Lizzie’s Etsy store to see this piece as well as her Mix and Match chairs in fun colors and fabrics, then enter our giveaway to win one for yourself.
To enter: Tweet, Facebook or socially share this post with all your favorite design savvy friends. Then leave me a comment about where you’d put this beauty in your own home (or who you love enough to give as a gift). On May 18th I’ll draw a name at random from the comments and announce the winner on Friday the 20th.
Good luck!
I Shop Goodwill, You Should Too

Giving to the Goodwill and other similar charities is something I’ve been doing since childhood.
It wasn’t until my boyfriend and I got our first Christmas tree together that I wandered into my neighborhood Goodwill. Being that it was our first tree, we didn’t have much to put on it. I made a few ornaments, but it still wasn’t enough. So, on a Sunday in early December, I peeked into the Goodwill and decided to give it a shot.
I have to admit, that day must have been especially busy because the whole experience was overwhelming. People were pawing through Big Box overstock, children were running everywhere and the aisles were about 18 inches wide. Okay, maybe 24 inches.
But I kept focused and I walked out that day with everything for my tree under $20. I wasn’t ready to dive into the racks of clothing, but I returned shortly before New Years and had my first Goodwill clothing shopping experience.
Truth be told, not every garment was a great find. In fact, I’ve learned that the best you can hope for is less than 10% of the clothing will be something you will want to take home. But it’s the great things I do find that keep me coming back.
By skipping the mall, thrift shopping for clothing a good way to green up your wardrobe – because you’re not driving up the demand for new garments. And, even better, you’re supporting your local community. Goodwill provides job-training for your neighbors with disabilities.
It’s a great feeling to do some shopping, get some unique items for your wardrobe and give back to your community at the same time. I wouldn’t trade that for mall-shopping any day.
Fresh Finds for May
| May 5, 2011 | Posted by Linsi Brownson under Business, favorite things, fresh finds, furniture, redefine home |
I know I’ve been a broken record lately, but I just can’t get over how fast time is going by these days. Just moments ago it seems I was making resolutions in January and here we are suddenly in May. I can’t quite get a grasp on the days, though I’m certainly trying to make the most of them, especially now that it’s warm and bright out until practically bedtime (mine anyway).
Anywho, since it is May, it’s time again to release our Fresh Finds at Redefine Home. I’ve been hard at work over the last several weeks and I’m excited to have a TON of stuff to introduce this month. While I think they’re all great pieces (since I picked them), I do have a couple favorites that I want to share. So here goes, Linsi’s List of Exquisite Items. You can see these and all the rest in our What’s New section at Redefine Home.
I’ve been in a funky mood lately and this dresser is fittin’ my style. It’s got just a slightly weird shape to it and feels kind of Alice In Wonderland-y while still being totally appropriate for a normal home.
I love me some tufting and I’m also seriously falling for that light seafoam color! It’s subtle, in certain light it looks like a natural linen and would actually pair well with a whole host of other room palettes (for those who are scared of color). The the fabric is really luxurious and has a nice sheen and great texture to it.
I thought it was impossible to like the look of a metal bed. But the Elijah and Ma Belle beds instantly changed my tune, though I still think they are exceptions to the rule…Elijah has personality and I’m always drawn to that Mediterranean clover shape. And Ma Belle, well, she’s just soo pretty.
I’m kind off-theme here but I’m really digging this industrial table. The rustic, reclaimed wood top is similar to our farmhouse table (another fave) and that metal base reminds me of a bridge. So cool.
Well those are my top picks. Check out what else is new and tell me what you like best. Peace Yo.
