3 Things 1.23.12

Kicking off Monday!

3 Things this week

1. I am looking forward to: today’s launch of a fun project called Design Your Life – a collaboration of health, home and fashion – along with Nicole of The Wardrobe Code and Erica of Knocked Up Fitness.

2. I am grateful for: A network of amazing business women to to feed the creativity, share in the successes and help each other through the rough spots in entrepreneurial life.

3. Will accomplish: Going to the gym 3 days. I used to be such a health nut but, you know, life happens. I’ve been slowly getting myself back into the habit – and this week I am motivated by the arrival of my all-time favorite protein shakes from Herbalife, my new audiobook, and the difference I’m seeing in my waistline from the last couple weeks of being “pretty good.”. This week I’m gonna be great!

I want to hear your 3 Things for the week. Please share in the comments below!

Inspired Week 1.13.12

It’s Friday the 13th (insert creepy organ soundbyte here).

I don’t know about you, but I’ve always had a ‘thing’ for odd numbers. 7, 13, 29…I personally find them to be lucky.

Not really applicable to this post though.

What I wanted to share today are a couple of things that have inspired me this week.

1. The Bloggess’s crusade for kindness. Yeah, I know you already know about The Red Dress movement, but it doesn’t make it any less awesome (kindness to strangers is so 2010…). On a semi-side note, Check out these awesome Paper Dolls her friend made for her.

2. My friend Nicole’s new website The Wardrobe Code. Not simply because I love her, but because I know what went into pulling this all together and it inspires me to keep working harder, believing in myself and not letting fear knock me down. The website is beautiful. It will inspire you…go there.

3. Another friend (I guess it’s a good week for friends), architectural genius Lauren Moss of MYD Studio was named one of the Top 20 Architects Under 40 by ENR Magazine. It’s not biased, they think she’s awesome too. I think it’s a really big deal for young, female entrepreneurs to be recognized for their achievements. Especially in a field that is traditionally dominated by men. Congrats Lauren, you inspire me.

4. My own business, Redefine Home store, closed down this week. It’s not something I’m totally ready to talk about – but mostly because I don’t know what happens next. Every cheesy phrase about doors opening and closing rings true when you are in transition. I am inspired by what’s coming next and proud of what I created, what I learned and what I am now capable of…ANYTHING.

5. Whew, made it to an odd number (lovin’ these tie-ins aren’t you?). This week I was really grateful for all the support from my vendors when they learned I was closing the shoppe. We have built great relationships and will definitely find opportunities to continue working together moving forward. I love working with artisans and small businesses because you get so much more than just a product, you get a personality and a friend. Thank you all.

You Say It’s Your Birthday

Now, I don’t usually make a big thing of my Birthday (or anyone else’s for that matter), but this year is different. Because I’m turning 30 tomorrow and it means a lot!

Since I’ve never been 30, I’m only relying on my lovely pals who beat me to it, and their experiences with it. So it could be a bunch of BS (like Mom’s saying labor didn’t hurt that much), but my friends are a pretty great bunch of ladies so I’m inclined to believe them. They say it’s AWESOME and I am on board with awesome.

3 Reasons I’m stoked for my Birthday:

1. I’m entering a new phase in my life – this isn’t about getting older (though I am)

It’s about stepping up and owning who you are.

I’m more comfortable with making decisions, good or bad, because they are mine to make.  I am responsible for what happens in my life – my body, my relationships, my career.  I own that.

2. I’ll be at the spa all day tomorrow with my girlies

This will be us – lounging in plushy robes, getting massages, drinking cucumber water, relaxing in the steam room….DELIGHTFUL

I will even forgive that decor…because it’s my birthday…

3. Spa Day is followed by Foodie Night

We’ll be meeting up with our men for a fabulous dinner at the Nirvana Grille in Laguna Beach.

I WILL be wearing something sparkly and I WILL be drinking Champagne.  How’s that for a good start?

Have yourself a wonderful weekend and I’ll see you next week – with fewer wrinkles and a big happy smile.  Peace.

Create: Le Spooky Salon

Nearly a year ago, my creative lady pals and I decided to start holding secret meetings to determine the future of the world…under the guise of crafting.  It has since been known as Le Salon: a Gathering place for us to share ideas, swap stories and complete a project in the process.  From truffles to lip balm to canning preserves, Le Salon has helped us learn a lot from each other – and we always leave inspired.

Pumpkin Carving at Le Salon

Last weekend we got in the Halloween spirit (pardon the pun) by carving pumpkins, sipping spiked cider, and munching on some delicious food.

Like the Apple Tart I mentioned last week…

Or savory Butternut Squash Soup

And fresh heirloom tomatoes topped with basil and goat cheese…OMG so good!

Sadly I do not have a photo of the Dark Chocolate, Sea Salt, Pumpkin Seed and Almond Bark because it has been eaten, but I WILL get you a recipe because that stuff rocked my world.

Great times had at Le Salon, you should try one too.  Get your friends together make something simple.  Have a Spooky Day.

Nurture: Let’s Get Together

Lots of moments in life serve as reminders of what is most important – our relationships.

Friends, family and the people we meet for brief moments before they fade into a past that forever shapes who we are.  I think an event like September 11th, and the 10th Anniversary of it, is a great example of such moments.  No matter where you were or what your beliefs there is no denying that this event happened to all of us.  And from its tragedy came a universal connection among people across the country and the globe.  Rarely do these emotions hit so many people at the same time, yet there we were sharing similar thoughts with complete strangers.

A lot has changed since then and a lot of unfortunate things have happened, many perhaps in relation to it.  But that day I realized for the first time in my life  just how large the world really was, and the potential for good things to happen when so many people feel united for a cause. I hadn’t thought before about what it would be like to communicate with people on the other side of the world.  There was no social media (not counting MySpace), most people didn’t have a blog.  I’d have put stock in the flying car before I would have believed that we would be this connected only 10 years later.

In  reflection of yesterday’s Anniversary and in an effort to focus more on things that matter, I would just like to say that I’m grateful to be connected to you all.  Whether we know each other personally or not, it means a great deal to me to have the opportunity to be part of a community of amazing people around the world.   Thank you for reading Inspired Design Daily and I would love to hear your thoughts on this too.
